Lakeshore Records score album
features music by Paul Haslinger with songs by Blue Stahli, Angelspit, and
Aesthetic Perfection
(January 17, 2012- Los Angeles, CA) – Lakeshore
Records will release the original score album for Underworld Awakening available
digitally (iTunes and Amazon Digital) on January 24th and in stores
on February 14, 2012. The film is the
first of the Underworld series to be shot in 3D. Like the three previous films in the franchise
(2003’s Underworld, the 2006 sequel Underworld:
Evolution, and 2008’s series prequel Underworld:
Rise of the Lycans), Underworld Awakening features
original score by Paul Haslinger. As a special bonus three songs that do
not appear on the original soundtrack album -- “Corner (Justin Lassen Remix)”
by Blue Stahli, “Under Your Skin (Deadbeat Remix)” by Aesthetic Perfection, and
“Sunrise” by Angelspit – are featured on this recording.
“Looking
back at this from my perspective in 2012, it is clear that this score [for
2003’s Underworld] more than any
other helped to establish my work as a film composer,” said Haslinger. “Naturally, having Kate Beckinsale back in the lead also
felt like a treat, as she truly personifies the particular style and attitude
of these films.”
Paul Haslinger
is an Austrian-born composer living and working in Los Angeles. He has secured
a distinctive reputation for composing film scores, which incorporate both
robust classical elements and compelling electronica. After working with
Tangerine Dream for several years, Haslinger released three solo albums and
scored two landmark animated science-fiction films, Planetary Traveler and Infinity’s
Child.
In recent years,
Haslinger has made a conscious effort to expand and diversify his work. His
scores for Ubisoft’s Xbox releases Far
Cry: Instincts and Rainbow Six –
Vegas were enthusiastically received by the gaming community. In 2006 he
was nominated for an Emmy for his music for the Showtime series SleeperCell.
“In so many ways, the score for Underworld Awakening accomplished what I had tried to do with the
first film: to write and realize a truly hybrid score (no pun intended), and to
balance a fairly massive programming endeavor with an equally massive
orchestral live recording,” Haslinger described. “I do believe the result
speaks for itself as it is the most seamless, and to my ears also the most
effective of the Underworld scores to date.”
Underworld Awakening brings a stunning new dimension to the epic
battle between the Vampires and Lycans, as the first film in the franchise to
shoot in 3D. Kate Beckinsale, star of
the first two films, returns in her lead role as the vampire warrioress Selene,
who escapes imprisonment to find herself in a world where humans have discovered the existence of both the
Vampire and Lycan clans, and are conducting an all-out war to eradicate both
immortal species.
Screen Gems and Lakeshore Entertainment present

Awakening in theaters nationwide on January 20, 2012. Underworld Awakening original score
album on Lakeshore Records will be available digitally on January 24th
and in stores on February 14, 2012. Also
available from Lakeshore Records are the soundtracks and score albums for Underworld,
Underworld: EVOLUTION and Underworld: RISE OF THE LYCANS.
