ALEXANDRE DESPLAT SCORES 'IDES OF MARCH'

SCORE AVAILABLE ON VARESE SARABANDE NOVEMBER 1ST

(LOS ANGELES, CA) Award-winning composer Alexandre Desplat scores Columbia Picture’s political thriller Ides of March, directed by George Clooney. The film marks the third time Desplat has scored a Clooney project, and the first time he has scored a Clooney directed film.  Desplat’s other Clooney projects, Syriana and Fantastic Mr. Fox, earned the composer Golden Globe and Oscar® nominations.  Desplat is fresh off scoring the summer blockbuster, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II and scales things back a bit in Ides of March, taking a darker tone for his insightful and revelatory look at the world of politics. Ides of March opens October 7th. Score album available on Varese Sarabande November 1st.

Ides of March is based on the Beau Willimon’s political thriller play “Farragut North.” During the frantic days before a heavily contested Ohio presidential primary, an up-and-coming campaign press secretary (Ryan Gosling) finds himself involved in a political scandal that threatens to upend his candidate’s shot at the presidency. Clooney also stars as the anointed candidate, and the supporting cast features Paul Giamatti, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Marisa Tomei, Jeffrey Wright, and Evan Rachel Wood.

Alexandre Desplat adds Clooney to an impressive roster of director collaborations which includes Roman Polanski (Ghost Writer), Terrence Malick (The Tree of Life), Stephen Frears (The Queen, Tamara Drewe), Jacques Audiard (The Prophet, The Beat that My Heart Skipped), David Yates (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Parts I and II), David Fincher (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), Nora Ephron (Julie & Julia), and Ang Lee (Lust, Caution).

MARK ISHAM SCORES 'DOLPHIN TALE'

Warner Bros. Release Opens Nationwide September 23
Score Album Available October 11 on Varese Sarabande Records

Award-winning composer Mark Isham scores Warner Brothers family film, “Dolphin Tale,” opening September 23.  The film is inspired by the amazing true story of Winter the dolphin, that loses her tail in a trap and is saved by a young boy (Nathan Gamble), and refers his catch to a prosthetic specialist (Morgan Freeman).  The film, directed by Charles Martin Smith, also stars Ashley Judd, Kris Kristofferson and Harry Connick, Jr. and will play in 3D theatres as well.  The score album is available October 11 through Varese Sarabande Records.

The gentle, lilting themes throughout the score reflect not only the emotional current of the film, but are reminiscent of the trademark sounds of dolphins interacting.  Strings, including harp, and soft percussion prevail. Isham, whose scores for notable films, including Crash, Black Dahlia,
The Cooler, Bobby, Nell, and The Secret Life of Bees, among many, many others, have won him not only acclaim among film critics and music professionals, but with film score aficionados as well.  He also recently completed the score for the critically acclaimed, currently playing, Warrior.

From his jazz roots to becoming one of the pioneering icons of hybrid electronic and orchestral scores,  Mark Isham continues to be one of the most prolific and provocative artists on the scene.  Isham is also a passionate anti-piracy advocate, evident from his “I Buy Music” campaign which focuses on educating a new generation of music lovers that CDs and other recorded music need to be purchased to ensure that artists are able to make a living from their craft.

COMPOSER TREVOR MORRIS WINS SECOND EMMY FOR SHOWTIME’S 'THE BORGIAS'

After seeing double gold in both US and Canada, Morris now preps for major release with Relativity’s “Immortals”

Los Angeles, CA September 13, 2011 -- With numerous accolades under his belt, Canadian composer Trevor Morris has received two Emmy nods, won his second Gemini Award for “Best Original Music Score for a Program or Series for Showtime’s THE TUDORS in Toronto, Canada, and just earned his second Emmy Award Saturday night at the 2011 Primetime Creative Arts Emmy® Awards for“Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music” on Showtime’s THE BORGIAS.

In 2007, Morris’ work on Showtime’s “The Tudors” earned him an Emmy for“Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music.” The main title theme category, which was almost canceled by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences last year, is very important to composers in the industry and continues to earn respect even in its endangered state.

"I am very proud to have won this award, and thrilled for ‘The Borgias,’ which is only in its first year,” Morris said. “The Academy almost eliminated the category for Main Title music, which we lobbied to get back this year.  So winning this particular Emmy is very special for me and I hope it won’t be the last of the category. Neil Jordan and Showtime have been amazing supporters and collaborators, which is good company for me to be in. It’s immensely gratifyingto be recognized like this for my music." “TheBorgias” has already been renewed by Showtime for a second season.

In the film world, Morris’ cinematic and thrilling score is the driving force behind the highly anticipated action-packed Relativity film, IMMORTALS (from director Tarsem Singh) coming out Nov. 11, 2011.Morris’ music has also be heard in films and TV shows such as Disney’s PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MAN’S CHEST, Fox Atomic’s THE HILLS HAVE EYES II, Columbia and Warner Bros pictures’ SOMETHING’S GOTTA GIVE, Disney’s PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: THE CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL, NBC’s THE CHASE, CBS’ MOONLIGHT, CBS’ MIAMI MEDICAL, NBC’s KINGS, and FOX’s JUSTICE.

Currently, Morris is composing music for Universal’s upcoming film, THE SCORPION KING: BATTLE FOR REDEMPTION, as well as Cheetah Vision and Emmett/Furla Films’ FIRE WITH FIRE, starring Bruce Willis, Josh Duhamel and Rosario Dawson.

MATEO MESSINA SCORES 'BUTTER'

“BUTTER” PREMIERES SEPTEMBER 13
AT TORONTO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

Los Angeles, California – Mateo Messina scores the upcoming Toronto “must see” Weinstein film, “Butter,” featuring an all-star cast:  Jennifer Garner, Hugh Jackman, Olivia Wilde, Alicia Silverstone, Rob Corddry, Ashley Greene and Ty Burrell.  The film is directed by Jim Field Smith (”She’s Out of My League”) and written by Jason Micallef. Messina gained recognition as a new breed of composer with his unique style for the indie favorite, “Juno.” “Butter” follows Laura (Garner), the wife of a former butter sculpting champion Bob (Burrell) who decides to take the baton from her retiring husband only to be one-upped by a young, adopted African American girl (Shahidi), who has discovered that she has a natural talent for making art out of butter.  “Butter” will premiere September 13th at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Grammy-winning film composer Mateo Messina brings a unique feel to each film he scores. Although being more influenced by Led Zeppelin than Beethoven, he nonetheless debuted an orchestral concert a year later, launching a career as a composer. Messina began writing for young directors with a plan to "grow up" with them. One of those filmmakers was Jason Reitman. Mateo's first break into film was writing additional music for Reitman's acclaimed Thank You for Smoking. Reitman then tapped him to write the score for the film Juno, which went on to win an Academy Award. The Juno soundtrack also received several accolades, including a Grammy.

“In writing for ‘Butter,’ every cue belonging to Laura Pickler was written very on top of the beat.  She's pretty one-dimensional, so I wrote her that way musically.   I based Destiny's character in Hammond B3 & Rhodes piano, as they feel soulful & have roots. She's the most grounded, rooted character in the film. Brooke is all rock n roll.  I researched what kinds of music they play in strip clubs.  So, I went with stripper music for her throughout.”

His most recent credits include Kat Coiro's L!fe Happens, starring Kate Bosworth, Rachel Bilson and Krysten Ritter, and the soon-to-be-released Frankie Go Boom, starring Ron Perlman, Charlie Hunnam, Lizzy Caplan and Chris O'Dowd.  Earlier in 2011, he scored two prime time television shows: Perfect Couples (NBC) and Fairly Legal (USA).  On the feature film front, he continues to collaborate with Reitman, providing additional music for Up in the Air starring George Clooney and the upcoming Young Adult, starring Charlize Theron written by Oscar®-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody.

Remembering his roots, the philanthropically-minded Messina returns to his hometown of Seattle each year to premiere his symphonies as benefit concerts for Seattle Children's Hospital. His imaginative and emotional concerts have included many notable musical guests, including Alice In Chains, Heart and Cut Chemist. He and his team have raised nearly a million dollars for families at the hospital through his 13 concerts. This fall, he will debut his Symphony #14. Mateo Messina loves writing music and helping others, and this humanity shines through all of his work.

JEFF BEAL SCORES 'LAST CALL AT THE OASIS'

Toronto International Film Festival Hosts World Premiere on September 9, 2011

(Los Angeles, CA) - Three time-Emmy award-winning composer Jeff Beal has scored and will attend Participant Media’s powerful documentary “Last Call at the Oasis,” which will have its World Premiere Friday, September 9th at the Toronto International Film Festival. The film marks Beal’s fifth collaboration with the Oscar®-winning director Jessica Yu including “Ping Pong Playa,” which was also honored with a Toronto Film Festival premiere.

Written, directed, and co-produced by Yu, the documentary illuminates the vital role that water plays in our lives, shows communities already struggling with its ill effects, as well as individuals championing some revolutionary solutions to unconscionable revelations about the EPA and Clean Water Act.

Composer Jeff Beal moves effortlessly between writing music for film and television.  His numerous credits include “Rome,” “Monk,” “Ugly Betty,” two films for Ed Harris (“Pollack,” and “Appaloosa”) and the upcoming “Wilde Salome” directed by and starring Al Pacino.

A member of a new generation of eclectic composers, Beal is fluent in the diverse languages of jazz, classical, contemporary, and electronic and world music. Beal’s compositions can be heard in movie theaters, concert halls, CD recordings and on television. NY Times’ Steven Schneider wrote of  "...the richness of Beal's musical thinking - the ways in which he conceives of his solos as fully-developed mini compositions, while his compositions often capture the liveliness and unpredictability of the best improvisation."

LARRY GROUPÉ SCORES 'STRAW DOGS'

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA – Film composer Larry Groupé reunites with Director Rod Lurie for Sony Pictures’ “Straw Dogs,” which opens nationwide September 16. The score album is available on Screen Gems Records. The film is written by Lurie with an earlier screenplay by David Zelag Goodman and Sam Peckinpaw (“Straw Dogs,” 1971) and stars Alexander Skarsgård, Kate Bosworth and James Marsden.

Groupé’s score is eerily original, yet reminiscent of the music created for the 40s noir films with its progression of discomfort… to tension… to dread, with dexterous use of strings, minor chording, and sustained tempo. “There’s nothing like an audience realizing there is real danger around the corner just by hearing a particular cue. It’s the most exiting part of scoring a slow boiling thriller,” acknowledges Groupé.

“Straw Dogs” is the latest among Groupé’s many collaborations with the multi hyphenate Lurie. “Four Second Delay,” a short film that struck a chord in Lurie to engage in political thrillers, marked their first project. “Nothing But the Truth, among other Lurie-directed projects, followed the critically acclaimed film, “The Contender.”

Rod Lurie’s “Straw Dogs” is closely based on the original novel, “The Siege of Trencher’s Farm,” by Gordon Williams.
