FIMUCITÉ V CONCLUDES WITH AN OVATION OF 4,400 PEOPLE
The Tenerife International Film Music Festival (FIMUCITÉ) ended its fifth edition on Saturday, July 2, with an ovation of more than 4,000 people who attended the great week of parallel activities and concerts that took place at the main venues in Santa Cruz and La Laguna. The Closing Gala Concert, staged at the Auditorio de Tenerife "Adán Martín", and focused on Bernard Herrmann and John Barry, achieved one of the greatest successes of this film music event, which was completely sold out. The audience could enjoy the best scores by both geniuses performed by the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra, conducted by the composer and director of FIMUCITÉ, Diego Navarro.
This Gala became unforgettable thanks to the participation, for the first time, of soloist voices accompanied by the orchestra. The soprano Carmen Acosta, with an extraordinary performance of the Salaambo’s Aria, from Citizen Kane, and Esther Ovejero, whose charismatic voice revived immortal themes from the Bond saga as "Goldfinger" or “Diamonds Are Forever”, amazed the audience. The comedy group El Supositorio also joined the event with a new and brilliant short film parodying the adventures of James Bond 007.

AUSTIN WINTORY SCORES 'A LITTLE HELP'
Film begins tiered release July 22, soundtrack available July 19
Los Angeles, CA – Composer AUSTIN WINTORY scores the indie-drama A LITTLE HELP. The film, written and directed by THE KING OF QUEENS creator Michael J. Weithorn, stars Jenna Fischer (The Office; Hall Pass) and Chris O’Donnell (NCIS:LA; Batman & Robin). A LITTLE HELP is the story of a recently widowed single mother who finds herself entangled in a series of lies in order to take care of herself and her 12 year old son. A LITTLE HELP begins a tiered release July 22 and the soundtrack is available July 19.
The role of the score to A LITTLE HELP was a unique task for Austin Wintory. In addition to conveying various musical tones, the score needed to bridge seamlessly between classic rock songs and new Jakob Dylan songs. “Whether it was happy, sad, tense, or light, Austin found exactly the right accompaniment to whatever kind of narrative situation we had,” explained producer Joe Gressis. "Dramatically/darkly comedic" were the operative words for the score's direction, arrived at via close collaboration with director Michael Weithorn and producers Gressis and Dena Hysell. Although traditional rock instruments including electric guitar, bass and drums form the musical core, it is not a rock score. “The cues actually run the gamut from off-kilter waltzes to purely textural electronic cues,” explains Wintory. Additionally, he co-wrote with Céleigh Chapman, a song in the film "I'm Lucky."
In just a few years, Austin Wintory has become a highly sought-after composer. The Hollywood Reporter called him “One of the young composers to watch.” The Los Angeles Times singled out his score for CAPTAIN ABU RAED as an Oscar® contender, and last year, he won “Best New Film Composer” by the Hollywood Music in Media Awards. Wintory’s received a BAFTA nomination for his score to the video game FLOW. His additional credits include Paul Solet’s psychological-thriller GRACE and Bob Celestino's thriller LEAVE. He will reunite with CAPTAIN ABU RAED director Amin Matalqa for WELCOME TO NOWHERE. Wintory is currently completing his score for the PlayStation3 game JOURNEY.
Austin Wintory taught himself how to compose, orchestrate and conduct in high school, later attending NYU and USC. His first short film won a scoring competition and resulted in Wintory conducting the premiere at New York’s Lincoln Center. At USC, Wintory studied under Grammy® nominee Morten Lauridsen and Golden Globe® and Emmy® nominated composer Christopher Young (The Shipping News, Spider-Man 3). Before graduating, Austin Wintory scored over 150 projects.
COMPOSER ALAN MENKEN CREATES THEME SONG FOR 'CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER'
Film opens July 22, soundtrack available July 19
Academy Award winning composer Alan Menken brings his unique voice to Captain America: The First Avenger by creating an original song. The film features the patriotic song “Star Spangled Man” written by Menken and David Zippel, performed by the Metro Voices. The song is written in the style of 1940s World War II army musicals. Menken has earned eight Oscars, more than any other living person, along with ten Grammys and seven Golden Globes. The film’s original score is composed by Alan Silvestri. The film opens July 22, soundtrack available July 19.
Helmed by Joe Johnston (Hildago, October Sky), Captain America: The First Avenger focuses on the early days of the Marvel Universe when Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) volunteers to participate in an experimental program that turns him into the Super Soldier known as Captain America. According to Menken, “‘Star Spangled Man’ is a USO style production number; stylistically an homage to those great wartime songs of Irving Berlin. In it, we follow the on-stage development of Captain America from a nervous amateur to a confident showman. For the song, I reunited with my Hercules collaborator and Tony award winner, David Zippel.”
In addition to being an award-winning and prolific film composer, Menken currently has several new stage productions running including his Tony nominated Sister Act on Broadway and Aladdin the musical in Seattle. Menken is also working on a live musical adaptation of Newsies. Additionally, his Leap of Faith musical, which premiered in Los Angeles, is expected to open on Broadway later this year.
Alan Menken’s professional career began after graduating from New York University. He met Howard Ashman and began collaborating on several productions for the WPA Theater, ultimately achieving widespread acclaim with Little Shop of Horrors. Their musical was later turned into a film which earned them an Academy Award nomination. The success of Little Shop of Horrors led Menken and Ashman to Walt Disney Studios. Their efforts were rewarded with two Oscars for The Little Mermaid: Best Original Score and Best Song "Under the Sea.” The following year, they again were rewarded with Oscars for Beauty and The Beast. Unfortunately, Ashman would receive his award posthumously.
Menken’s music continued the Disney renaissance with additional Oscar winning and nominated films including Pocahontas, Aladdin, Hunchback of Notre Dame and recently, Enchanted and Tangled. His film success has led to numerous stage productions including The Little Mermaid – The Musical, Beauty and The Beast – The Musical and currently Sister Act – The Musical and Aladdin – The Musical.
Menken has received accolades for his musical contributions including Oscars, Grammys, Golden Globes and Tony nominations. His philanthropic achievements with students earned him an honorary doctorate in Fine Arts from New York University. Recently he was immortalized with his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and his induction into the Songwriter Hall of Fame.

DANIEL LICHT'S SILENT HILL: DOWNPOUR SET TO BE RELEASED IN OCTOBER
LOS ANGELES- Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. announced that the highly anticipated game SILENT HILL: DOWNPOUR will be released in North America this October for Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. DOWNPOUR will bring a completely original storyline and an all-new haunting soundtrack to the videogame. Composer Daniel Licht was brought on to create a dark, suspenseful score for the franchise. Licht is also the mastermind behind the music for the hit Showtime series, "Dexter." He has built a reputation of incorporating unusual sound manipulation and obscure instruments into his scores including a bone rasp.
SILENT HILL: DOWNPOUR starts as Murphy Pendleton, the game's main character, finds himself lost and alone in the woods after his prison transport bus crashes near the town of Silent Hill. What happens after is up to the player as they traverse an all new Silent Hill environment that is expansive, yet claustrophobic. And though this sleepy town may feel desolate, the player is never truly alone.
Daniel Licht's television and film credits include all seasons of Dexter, Stephen King's Thinner, Hellraiser Bloodline, Children of the Corn and the ABC TV series Body of Proof. Licht also writes music that is not horrifying, such as the Lifetime original film, Maneater. He also completed the score to the heartfelt documentary Dumbstruck about the world of ventriloquists. Recently, Licht was awarded two BMI Film & TV music awards for his work on “Dexter” and “Body of Proof;” he is an Emmy contender for those two TV shows this season in the dramatic underscore category. Licht also spoke about SILENT HILL: DOWNPOUR at this year's E3 convention. To see how Licht composed the score for "Dexter," please visit: www.youtube.com/watch?v=VR38gwzJhLg.
