STEPHEN WARBECK'S CONCERT AT FIMUCITÉ

The concert, staged for June 29 at 21.00 by FIMUCITÉ, includes, among other works of the acclaimed British composer, the world premiere of his scores for “Un Balcon sur la Mer”, “There Will Be Dragons”, and “Polisse”, Jury Prize in the last Cannes Film Festival

The Tenerife International Film Music Festival (FIMUCITÉ), which will take place from June 27 to July 2, sponsored by Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, Canary Islands Government and Santa Cruz and La Laguna City Councils, will offer one of the most anticipated concerts for film music fans: the first appointment of the Spanish audience with the Academy Awarded composer Stephen Warbeck, winner for “Shakespeare in Love” (1998). It will be on June 29 at the Leal Theater in La Laguna at 21.00.

The repertoire of the composer will also include the world premiere of the concert suites of the scores for the films “Un Balcon Sur la Mer”, “There Will Be Dragons”, and “Polisse”, this last one awarded with the Jury Prize in the last Cannes Film Festival. Warbeck will go on stage accompanied by his band, formed by the clarinetist and sax Sarah Homer, Dario Rosetti-Bonell (electric and acoustic guitars); Nick Cooper (cello), and Steve Watts, Rob Millett and Paul Clarvis, bass, percussion and drums, respectively.

The concert will round off with the pieces composed for “Charlotte Gray”, “Captain Corelli’s Mandolin” and the mentioned “Shakespeare in Love”, as well as some surprises that Warbeck will dedicate specifically to his fans during the performance.

After eight years of working as a composer and performer for the stage, Stephen began writing music for film and television. Since the early 1980's, he has built up a considerable filmography. As well as writing music for more than forty television projects, (for which he has received five BAFTA nominations), he has scored many feature films and numerous radio plays.

MATEO MESSINA SCORES 'L!FE HAPPENS'

PREMIERING AT THE LA FILM FESTIVAL JUNE 14

(LOS ANGELES) – Director Kat Coiro’s new comedy L!fe Happens features an original score by Mateo Messina, whose breakout score for Academy Award-winning Juno solidified his reputation as a new breed of composer. The film stars Kate Bosworth, Rachel Bilson and Krysten Ritter. Ritter, who also co-wrote, plays party girl Kim who is faced with an unplanned pregnancy after a one night stand. According to Messina, “L!fe Happens was a super fun score to write mostly because the characters were so much fun. Tonally it was a challenge to combine all the different moments of being human; the laughable ridiculousness we feel at times, the harshness life delivers at other times.  This story reveals how we are forced to grow up in different ways.  Kat Coiro, director, tells the story in a way that reminds us of all the comedy we experience even in the moments of tension in life.  I love the way she melded the two and I understood what she wanted for her film's score. A lot of the score is high energy and fun.  I gave it somewhat of a band feel.  The movie is a good time, so is its’ score.”

Mateo Messina’s style of songwriting and composition has earned him accolades. He has received numerous film score awards, including the Festival Tous Courts in France for The Freak, One Reel Film Festival for Terra and ASCAP Awards.

Messina’s upcoming features include Young Adult, which reunites him with Juno director Jason Reitman and screenwriter Diablo Cody and the Weinstein Company’s Butter, starring Olivia Wilde, Hugh Jackman and Ashley Greene, both set for release this fall. He also continues to create original music for the upcoming second season of USA Network’s Fairly Legal.

A Seattle native, Messina maintains residences in both his hometown and Los Angeles. The young philanthropist composes and produces an annual benefit concert with The Symphony Guild to benefit Seattle Children’s Hospital & Regional Medical Center. Entering its 14th year, Messina has raised over one million dollars for the hospital.

The superhero films will find their place again in the Festival thanks to the score of this Marvel Comics classic, performed by the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra and conducted by Diego Navarro, on July 1 at the Auditorio “Adán Martín”

The Tenerife International Film Music Festival (FIMUCITÉ), which will take place from June 27 to July 2, sponsored by Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, Canary Islands Government and Santa Cruz and La Laguna City Councils, will extend its offer to music and comic lovers with the World premiere “Suite” for “Thor”, by Patrick Doyle, box office hit film directed by Kenneth Branagh. The Tenerife Symphony Orchestra and the Tenerife Film Choir, with Cristina Farraris as choir master, will perform the score, conducted by the Festival composer and director, Diego Navarro, on July 1, at 21.00, at the Auditorio de Tenerife “Adán Martín”.

The Festival has always paid attention to the twinning among different cultural styles, as the American film and comics have had for years. This premiere means a step forward in the tradition FIMUCITÉ has had since the beginning, staging premiere concert performances for so well known films such as “Iron Man” or “Spiderman 3”, and the performances of “Superman” or “Superman Returns”.

It is worth mentioning “Astroboy”, the film based on the world-famous anime by Osamu Tezuka, which made Tenerife become the only place in the World to be presented before the opening of the film. Regarding the Spanish comics, the Festival is also very involved with this type of art, which has culminated, among other collaborations, in the poster Alfonso Azpiri, unquestionable veteran and author of characters such as “Lorna” and “Mot”, designed for FIMUCITÉ 3.

MARK ISHAM AND ALBERTO IGLESIAS TO ATTEND ÚBEDA'S 7th INTERNATIONAL FILM MUSIC FESTIVAL

Two important figures on the film music landscape, Alberto Iglesias and Mark Isham, confirm their assistance to the ‘Ciudad de Úbeda’ festival.

Two prestigious names to join the 7th International Film music Festival ‘City of Úbeda’. With this announcement the festival consolidates what is already one of the most important events of film music gatherings all over the world. The organisation is proud to disclose that Alberto Iglesias, spanish composer nominated twice to the Academy Awards, and north American Mark Isham, winner of a Grammy and an Emmy, and one of the most acclaimed composers among film music fans thanks to works such as A River Runs Through It and The Black Dahlia, will join the list of guests. With this two composers joining the list of guests for this edition – to be celebrated July, 18-24 2011 – the Festival is an unmissable event for film music fans to come to Úbeda.

Also, the International Film Music Critics Association (IFMCA) join forces with Ubeda's 7th Film Music Festival with the inaugural Independent Press Jury Prize for an Unreleased Score, which will be presented during the closing night on 24th July. There will also be a special Lifetime Achievement Award presented to Bruno Coulais, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to film music.

THE MUSIC OF DEXTER GEARS UP FOR NEW SEASON

DANIEL LICHT ADDS DUCT TAPE AND SURGICAL TOOLS TO THE CHILLING SCORE

LOS ANGELES – Daniel Licht, composer for the hit Showtime series DEXTER is busy in his Los Angeles home studio conjuring up chilling sound ideas for Season 6 beginning this fall. He created new musical motifs for the last season with sounds of duct tape and surgical tools such as hemostats and scalpels that join the sounds of human femurs, prehistoric rhythm instruments and traditional musical instruments from previous seasons. Beginning August 16, the Season 5 DVD and the score CD will be available. Milan Records will offer free downloads of select tracks from the score on the Dexter Facebook page. Recently, Licht received a BMI Award for his work on DEXTER and the new ABC series BODY OF PROOF, which will be back next season. Licht is in the studio writing music for the newest SILENT HILL 8: DOWNPOUR videogame to be released fall 2011. He will participate in a panel at AFI on June 22nd entitled "Composing music for Dramatic Television."

Licht realized a dream when he incorporated into the DEXTER score pre-Columbian instruments such as a sacrificial drum, bone flutes, rasps, pierced phalanges and bullroarers. “When I lived in New York, I visited the ancient music wing of the Metropolitan Museum many times and wondered what the hell the instruments behind the glass sounded like,” said Licht. “He laughingly adds that “I should point out that the sacrificial drum did not have a human skin head as they did in Pre-Columbian times.”

(LOS ANGELES) – USA Network’s Fairly Legal is returning for a second season. The show will continue to feature an original score by Mateo Messina, whose breakout score for Academy Award-winning Juno solidified his reputation as a new breed of composer. Fairly Legal stars Sarah Shahi (The L Word) who plays Kate Reed, a lawyer-turned-mediator after she quits from her family’s esteemed San Francisco firm. Messina will participate in a panel at AFI on June 22nd from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. entitled, “Composing music for Dramatic Television.”

The majority of Mateo Messina’s Fairly Legal score is acoustically-driven, with rock n’ roll elements, and incorporates unusual sound manipulation. Messina explains, “Everything is a little off kilter, like the main character. Kate is a unique individual, she doesn't follow the norm. The music needed to reflect her personality; it has irreverent and grunge elements. I wanted to give [Kate] a unique musical voice. For example, there are times when traditional instrumentation isn’t appropriate to convey her personality. So I try to create a sound to express her off-kilter lifestyle.” Messina describes some of his specific techniques. “I used two metallic pizza tins as the snare drums. I also create percussion sounds using window envelopes as drumsticks playing on paper.” For Kate’s assistant, Leo – who is a nerdy, video-game-obsessed type – Messina incorporated the classic retro sounds of the drum machine from a Casio keyboard.

During the Gala, focused on two unquestionable film music composers, Bernard Hermann and John Barry, Carmen Acosta will sing “Salaambo´s Aria” from “Citizen Kane”, and Ovejero will perform two of the most remembered James Bond saga songs: “Goldfinger” and “Diamonds are forever”.
