LAKESHORE RECORDS CRUISES WITH THE LINCOLN LAWYER

Cliff Martinez’s Original Score To Be Released by Lakeshore Records

(February 22, 2011- Los Angeles, CA) – Lakeshore Records will release the The Lincoln Lawyer -- Original Motion Picture Score available digitally on March 15th and in stores on March 29, 2011. The original score was composed by Cliff Martinez (Traffic, Solaris).

“Out of the box, The Lincoln Lawyer was about as tightly wrapped as any film I've worked on,” said Martinez. “The heavy lifting had been done long before I arrived, so my job was to simply apply the aural icing to the cake. The main ingredients in my recipe are an electric guitar, time-stretching software, baritone steel drums and my top-secret weapon of choice: the Baschet Crystal…an experimental instrument/objet d'art played with moistened fingers on glass rods.”

Such an out-of-the-box approach comes naturally for Cliff Martinez. He moved to California in 1976, just in time for the punk movement. He had stints as drummer for the Weirdos, Lydia Lunch and Foetus frontman Jim Thirlwell, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Dickies. He was also the drummer in the final incarnation of legendary iconoclasts Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band.

ALEXANDER DESPLAT LEADS INTERNATIONAL FILM MUSIC CRITICS’ AWARDS NOMINATIONS

(Hollywood, CA) Alexandre Desplat leads the pack of distinguished film and television composers with seven nominations from The International Film Music Critics Association. Desplat is nominated for Film Composer of the Year, and received two nods for Best Score of the Year with "The King's Speech" and "The Ghost Writer." "The King's Speech" continues its award-season reign with three nominations in total, and the "The Ghost Writer" received four.

Desplat's score for the King George VI biopic recently received Oscar, BAFTA and Golden Globe nominations. The composer incorporated the actual microphones of King George VI into his score, and recorded with a 90-piece orchestra at London’s Abbey Road Studio.

After composing the music for over 50 European films, Desplat burst onto the Hollywood scene in 2003 with his evocative score to “The Girl with a Pearl Earring,” which earned him nominations from the Golden Globes, BAFTA and European Film Awards. Additionally, Desplat has won the World Soundtrack Award five times out of six nominations for Best Original Score and Film Composer of the Year. Alexandre Desplat was also selected as one of the nine luminaries to serve as a juror for the 63rd Cannes Film Festival.

The International Film Music Critics Association (IFMCA) is an association of online, print and radio journalists who specialize in writing about original film and television music. Since its inception, the IFMCA has grown to comprise over 50 members from sixteen countries. Previous IFMCA Score of the Year Awards have been awarded to Michael Giacchino’s UP in 2009, Alexandre Desplat’s THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON in 2008, and Dario Marianelli’s ATONEMENT in 2007.

SONY REISSUES CHARLES GERHARDT’S CLASSIC FILM SCORES SERIES

SONY MASTERWORKS proudly announces the reissue of Charles Gerhardt’s acclaimed Classic Film Score series. In the 1970s, the Classic Film Scores series introduced a new generation to the sumptuous sound of music in Hollywood’s “Golden Age.” The following releases will be available March 1, 2011 on CD and through major digital service providers: Citizen Kane, Sunset Boulevard, Elizabeth and Essex, Spellbound, Now, Voyager, Classic Film Scores for Bette Davis and The Film Scores of David Raksin; the first six titles were released in October 2010.

It is widely accepted that together with the 1977 film release of Star Wars, Charles Gerhardt’s Classic Film Score series re-introduced moviegoers to orchestral scores and helped usher the modern era of film music. Using the original orchestrations, heard in rich stereo sound, Gerhardt and the National Philharmonic Orchestra recreated the great moments from the legendary scores of Hollywood’s most memorable films. Re-mastered for the first time using the original analog masters and including the original LP liner notes, the Classic Film Scores are once again available for both collectors and a new generation of listeners.

In 1972 Gerhardt conducted the National Philharmonic Orchestra in the recording of RCA’s first LP in the Classic Film Score series: The Sea Hawk, featuring the music of Erich Wolfgang Korngold. The album, produced by Erich’s son George Korngold, became an unexpected hit for the label, receiving favorable reviews and even landed on the Billboard charts. Other albums followed -- some highlighting an individual composer (Max Steiner, Miklós Rózsa, Franz Waxman, Alfred Newman, Dimitri Tiomkin, Bernard Herrmann), some focusing on a particular actor (Errol Flynn, Bette Davis, Humphrey Bogart).

HAL LEONARD RELEASES BATTLESTAR GALACTICA SONGBOOK

Cool New Piano Solo Folio Showcases Noted Composer Bear McCreary

(MILWAUKEE) – Variety called composer Bear McCreary’s score for Battlestar Galactica – the award-winning series on the SyFy channel from 2004-2009 – “the most innovative music on TV today,” and NPR said it “fits the action so perfectly, it’s almost devastating: (it’s) a sci-fi score like no other.” Hal Leonard Corporation is proud to publish the first-ever songbook featuring the music from the series.

McCreary himself was heavily involved in the creation of this special collection, personally translating his acclaimed, world music-infused orchestral score into fantastic piano solo arrangements. The intermediate to advanced-level songbook contains 19 selections in all, and as a bonus, also simplified versions of “Roslin and Adama” and “Wander My Friends.” There is a note from the Emmy-nominated McCreary, as well as a biography.

The music from Battlestar Galactica has a rabid following. No fewer than six soundtrack albums have been released to date, all selling well and enthusiastically praised by critics. There have also been several live concerts featuring the music. In 2008, more than 1,000 fans attended two sold-out shows at The Roxy Theatre in Los Angeles, with some fans flying in from as far as England and Australia. Last summer, McCreary conducted the world premiere performance of the Battlestar Galactica Symphony, as part of the renowned Fimucite Film Music Festival in Tenerife, Spain. A ballet based on McCreary’s scores for the series premiered in 2009, performed by the dancers of the Theaterhagen in Hagen, Germany.

McCreary comments on the Hal Leonard Battlestar Galactica songbook, “At last, fans can now be a part of the musical process themselves and experience the score as I first did: with fingertips touching the ivories.”

A must for the show’s multitude of fans, the Battlestar Galactica Piano Solo folio (HL00313530, ISBN 978-1-61780-367-3) retails for $16.99 and is available at music stores nationwide, or through Music Dispatch (http://www.musicdispatch.com/, 800-637-2852).
