UPCOMING SOUNDTRACK RELEASES: Film Score Monthly

The latest release from Film Score Monthly presents THE NAKED SPUR: CLASSIC WESTERN SCORES FROM MGM, a budget-priced, limited edition (1500 copies) three-disc set featuring five previously unreleased scores from MGM Westerns of the early 1950s.

Disc One features two scores by Oscar-winner Bronislau Kaper -- THE NAKED SPUR, the classic "psychological Western" teaming James Stewart and director Anthony Mann, and THE WILD NORTH, a "Northern" with Andrew Marton directing Stewart Granger as a French-Canadian trapper braving the wilderness with constable Wendell Corey.

Disc Two features two scores by Daniele Amfitheatrof -- DEVIL'S DOORWAY, Anthony Mann's dark Western drama with Robert Taylor as a Native American veteran of the Civil War who wages battle against white settlers to keep his family's land, and THE LAST HUNT, an adventure drama from writer-director Richard Brooks pairing Granger and Taylor as buffalo hunters.

Disc Three features Jeff Alexander's score for John Sturges' ESCAPE FROM FORT BRAVO, a blue-and-gray-vs-the-Indians adventure (a forerunner of Major Dundee, and co-written by Dundee villain Michael Pate) starring William Holden, as well as alternate tracks and source cues from the other scores.

This set features a booklet with artwork and liner notes, but for more elaborate liner notes on the films and their scores (co-written by yours truly), go to this link.
